simple exercise illustrations

Description:
Simple exercise instruction illustrations designed for clarity and ease of use.

Concept:
The brief was to produce a set of exercise positions presented in a friendly and relatable illustration style. It was important that the characters remained gender-neutral and that each exercise was shown using no more than two poses to maintain simplicity and clarity.

Styling:
A stick-figure approach, initially suggested by the client, was intentionally avoided. Instead, time was invested in developing a bespoke “Morph” style character. While this introduced compositional and positional challenges, quick sketching and iterative design development allowed Adrian to create illustrations that are both effective and approachable.

Notes
Following the initial briefing, Adrian was given full creative freedom to develop the character with one key constraint: the illustrations had to use black line only and depict a maximum of two positions per exercise. This approach was delivered successfully and was well received by both the client and the wider design team. Software use Adobe illustrator, and a bright yellow pencil with a rubber on the end. And not to forget a couple of sheets of A4 paper from the printer.
